Amazon is expanding its Prime Video shopping layer with a new X-Ray Shop tab and a Shop the Scene feature that uses Amazon Lens to match products inspired by what appears on screen. The company announced the update on September 10, saying Shop the Show now covers more than 8,000 U.S. titles, up from 1,300, while Shop the Scene is available in the Amazon Shopping app across more than 600 titles.

What changed for viewers

The new Shop tab sits inside Prime Video's X-Ray interface, beside familiar areas such as Cast, Trivia, and Music. On supported living room devices in the U.S., viewers can press up on the remote, open the shopping area, and use the Amazon Shopping app to continue on a phone. Amazon says automatic syncing works when the living room device and shopping app are signed in to the same account. Viewers can also reach the experience through a QR code or by searching for Shop the Show in the Amazon app.

Shop the Scene goes a step further. Rather than only presenting a storefront tied to a show or sport, it lets users tap into a scene and see similar products surfaced by Amazon Lens. Amazon's example is a viewer noticing a sweater in Off Campus, opening the Shopping app, then seeing similar items without leaving the viewing flow for long.

Why it matters

This is not just a convenience feature. It makes Prime Video a more direct retail surface, linking entertainment, visual search, and checkout in the same session. For Amazon, the practical upside is clearer attribution between a show, a product discovery moment, and a purchase. For viewers, the tradeoff is that a pause menu built for context is also becoming a shopping interface.

The useful decision rule is simple: the feature is strongest when it helps identify a real item or close substitute quickly, and weakest when it turns a lean-back viewing session into another recommendation feed. Viewers who share devices should also pay attention to the account requirement, because synced shopping depends on the Prime Video device and Amazon Shopping app being tied to the same Amazon account.

Amazon says the features are available starting now in the U.S. The next test will be quality, not reach. If product matches feel relevant and clearly separated from ads, the tool could be helpful. If they feel generic, viewers may treat the Shop tab like any other optional X-Ray panel and ignore it.
