Apple introduces iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, with October availability
Apple's foldable iPhone Duo has a 7.6 inch inner display, A20 Pro chip, and October 23 availability.
Apple has introduced iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, adding a book style model to a product line that has mostly changed by screen size, camera hardware, and processor generation. Apple says the device opens to a 7.6 inch Super Retina XDR inner display and keeps an outer screen with more than 90 percent of the screen area of iPhone 18 Pro. Preorders are scheduled to start at 5:00 a.m. Pacific time on October 16, with availability starting October 23.
What changes for buyers
The practical change is not just a larger screen. Apple is pitching Duo as a phone that can shift between a standard outer display, a large inner display, and partially folded viewing positions. That matters for people who use one device for reading, video calls, travel work, and media. A tablet size surface in a pocketable phone can reduce the need to carry an iPad for light tasks, but it also asks buyers to accept hinge complexity, inner display care, and a new set of case and accessory decisions.
Apple lists a Grade 5 titanium frame and hinge cover, Ceramic Shield on the front and back, IP68 water and dust resistance, and a scratch resistant coating on the inner display. The company also says the inner screen uses 10 ultrathin layers, a nano texture finish to cut glare, wide angle OLEDs, and 3000 nits peak brightness. Those claims are important because durability and crease visibility have been the central purchase objections around foldable phones.
Performance and software stakes
Duo also carries a vapor cooled A20 Pro chip, a 48MP Dual Fusion camera system, MagSafe wireless charging, and storage options from 256GB to 2TB. Apple says wired charging can reach up to 50 percent in around 20 minutes. Siri AI is described as rolling out in English, which makes availability a real consideration for buyers outside supported languages or regions.
- October 16: preorders open at 5:00 a.m. Pacific time.
- October 23: Apple lists general availability.
- 7.6 inch: the listed inner Super Retina XDR display size.
CyberOGZ's read is that Duo is a test of whether foldables move from niche Android hardware into the default premium phone conversation. The most sensible buyer rule is simple: consider it if the larger display replaces a second device in your routine. Wait for repair pricing, trade in values, and independent durability testing if the fold is mostly a novelty for you.
